Waiting...
Time passes by without notice
Night's gone, morning sets in
But not even a single word from you
Don't you know I'm waiting for you
It was this time of the year
we had the day with ourselves
But today I find you nowhere
Except simmering thoughts and creeping fears
My eyes are tired, there are no more tears to shed
Heart shattered and hope lost, I'm now unable to stand
Want to see your loving face before the sun sets
Please come back before it's too late
Now it's time I say goodbye
Forgive me I can no longer wait
But I'll be praying for you wherever I am
To protect you from all pains...

Don't let the dogs rule over you!
For how long do we have to face the threat of death? For how long do we have to shed the blood of our brothers and sisters? For how long do we have to live life in fear? For how long do we have to sit silently and watch the dogs rule?
For how long do we have to sell our votes? For how long do we have to keep our mouths shut from speaking the truth? For how long do we have to fight with guns? Won't we give peace a chance?
You can never achieve freedom by coercion and instilling fear on the minds of the people. It would be foolish to think that we can get our rights by sacrificing the lives of our own people. What good would be freedom when there is no one left to enjoy it?
In today's world, wars are fought by open minds across the table and many peace deals and treaties are signed over a cup of coffee. Isn't it high time our freedom fighters reach an agreement with the central government and restore peace in the state?
I'm not asking you to trade Manipur with the central government. I'm not saying that we should stop fighting for freedom. But you can at least make a deal to stop the killings; a ceasefire agreement would be good enough to start with. If you check the death figures of the last 10 years you will find that the number of civilians died is more than the number of militants or security forces.
Who is responsible for this? You may say it's the AFSPA that's killing the civilians. Here, I would like to question each one of you: Who invited AFSPA? I have never heard that GOI imposed AFSPA just after Manipur was merged with the Indian Union. Remember, AFSPA is a counter-product of the rising insurgency in the state.
At this juncture, I have a question to all our so called freedom fighters. If NSCN can negotiate with Government of India, why can't you. If KNF can strike a deal, why can't you. If all the militant groups unite and approach the GOI, there would be no question of failing in having a negotiation.
But why would they care to unite and talk out. They would rather demarcate Manipur into several jurisdictions and distribute among themselves like a piece of cake. Moreover, it's easier to collect illegal taxes on gunpoint.
It's easier to demand certain percentage of governmental and non-governmental contracts. Also it's easier to send a demand letter asking for certain amount as if owed to them and throw a bomb if denied. Moreover, it's far easier to work as OGWs (over ground workers) for dirty politicians and cheap organizations.
Why should the civilians always bear the brunt? It is better to realize that somehow you are also responsible for their deaths. So before it's too late, change your policies. You need superior strategies to reach your goal. Waging war without clear strategies is just like entering a war zone unarmed. And that would be as stupid as suicide.
Also understand the ground reality before you raise war against India. Do you have enough resources to stand in your own? Do you have skilled manpower to set up factories and produce the basic necessities? Do you have enough money to have a stable economy?
And who's going to rule the state; PLA, RPF, UNLF, KYKL, KCP, PREPAK, who else? Eventually, Manipur would become a militant's state from a militarized one. And that would be equally worse seeing the number of groups actively involving in every sphere of an individual's life.
Once upon a time when I was a kid, I remember freedom fighters sacrificing their lives demanding separation from the Indian sub-continent. I could never understand what made them think that Manipur can stand alone as a nation without any resources and skilled manpower but at least they knew what they want and many lost their lives for the sincere cause. Their first priority was safety of the public.
And they didn't demand money from the people to feed themselves or build houses. They had specific targets and they strike them only. They were the true soldiers of Kangleipak.
The scenario is different today. With so many groups fighting for leadership, it's difficult to understand what they are fighting for. Are they fighting for separation from the Indian Union? No, I don't think so. They are not fighting for freedom or for the people anymore. They are fighting for power only.
You may be ready to discard all Indian products but what about the Indian Currency. You have banned hindi movies and burned down hindi books but why hasn't anyone come out and burned Indian money. You love the Indian currency as much as you hate the country India. Does this means that your fight against India is for some selfish motive?
If the student bodies and Apunba Lup strictly followed the judicial enquiry of the killings of Ch Sanjit and Rabina Devi on July 23rd BT Road incident and find out ways for a fast track court, the commandos involved in the killings would have been proved guilty by law and would have been punished as desired by all.
If the student bodies have shown half the determination in proving the encounter a fake in court, the two months class boycott wouldn't have been required at all. And consequently, our dear CM would have been easily pulled down.
At least we would have got a good reason to ask for his resignation from the CM's post. And if we managed to get the evidence of our state leaders being irresponsible and corrupted, the central government would not have thought twice in terminating him.
But who cares. We are still so uncivilized and ignorant that no one can think of a better means. Whoever has the gun and money is powerful enough to dictate. Isn't that what they have been doing till today?
After selling out your votes to O Ibobi, today you are demanding his resignation from the CM's post. And you think he would resign. Even all the people in the state wants him to resign, the central government won't let him go. You know why? Because of the simple reason that there is no evidence against him. Better sharpen your minds to find a stronger means to pull him down.
The day people rise up and stand against every injustice done to them, there will be change in the system. But the more people bear it, the more people will be suppressed.
I'm sure no one has got the answer and looking at how things are going, it will take ages to bring peace in Manipur. But we can certainly make the first move by changing ourselves for a better tomorrow else we would see a day when people stay out of the house to guard the dogs.

Class boycott will do more harm to the state
It’s been more than two months since the Apunba Lup along with AMSU, MSF and KSA started the class boycott as protest against the July 23rd fake encounter at BT Road this year. At a time when students are supposed to be gearing up for their Xth and XIIth board examinations, schools are shut. Coaching centers are closed. Students are facing a hard time in their studieswhile their counterparts are busy covering the syllabus for better rankings. But our govt has been giving a deaf ear and blind eye to the situation. Why?
Why is the state govt silent on the issue? Why is our dear CM just sitting and watching the show? What is our education minister doing till now? It is unfortunate to see such leaders who have no concern for the thousands of students. What is worst is that the state govt is not even trying to break the deadlock. Mr CM is least concerned about it and why would he be worried whether schools are shut or classes are going on or not. His kids are not the one who is missing the classes.
No wonder why the central govt is doing nothing about it. Are they waiting for the students to lose one academic year? Or are they waiting for a chance to collect more votes?
I certainly understand the reason for calling the class boycott and fully support the cause but I don't find suspending classes to be productive or strong enough to bring the desired changes in the system. Students, who should be preparing for the future is rather involved in the political affairs of the state. It's good to understand the happenings and how the system is working but students going out of classes to bring change in political system are certainly not the right thing to do. It is education that will help us in bringing the changes; barring ourselves from being educated is just like shutting the doors for enlightenment.
Reacting to the appeal of all those who suggested to call off the ongoing class boycott and adopt some other form of agitation, the student bodies have categorically asserted that we people should understand that it is also for us that the ongoing public movement is being launched and so we should start launching the alternative agitation being suggested at once. The student bodies demanded to know which one we think is more important: right to life or right to education and questioned the guarantee of right to life.
Fine! the student bodies have very well put up their questions and I don’t guarantee anything else except my support in whatever movement they undertake but nothing at the cost of education. It would not be wise to keep ourselves shut in the dark especially, when we need brighter people to bring forward our issues in front of the world.
On the other side, Apunba Lup alleged that in Manipur, it is democracy in words and dictatorship in action. What is happening in Manipur is quite contradictory to many provisions of the Constitution of India like 'equality before law', 'protection of life and personal liberty' etc. In the name of tackling insurgency, several inappropriate black laws are being enforced in the region and under such draconian laws, people are being continuously targeted.
I fully agree to that but would not it be draconian if students are barred from attending classes? Would not it be dictatorship if the Lup shuts schools? Would not it be against the provisions of the Constitution of India?
So how different are the Aunba Lup and student bodies' tactics from the govt’s nasty politics? What kind of democracy are they preaching by boycotting classes? What provision of the Constitution are they talking about when they have not respected any? What rights are they talking about when they have not spared the kids the right to education? How different are they from their own elected state representative O Ibobi Singh?
I don't appreciate the student unions and federations who are supporting class boycott. I don't appreciate any organizations or lup that back up in shutting down schools. I don't appreciate the leaders of the state who are watching it as if nothing happened just because their sons and daughters are not studying in Manipur. I don't appreciate any shameful acts that hamper the growth of upcoming generation.
The student bodies and Apunba Lup should find better means to fight against the state sponsored terrorism. If the boycott is not lifted then Apunba Lup or the student bodies will be no less than any terror outfits.
No wonder, our so called freedom fighters who are always a step ahead in collecting taxes from the people are also sitting tight watching the showdown at the heart of Kangleipak. It's sick to see them going hand in hand with the state leaders so blindly.

Manipur would be better off without tainted militants
I know I would be their first target for having such an opinion about them but my conscience doesn't allow me to have a better view than this. Then should I keep my mouth shut? No, I cannot.
What a shame I felt when I saw the news about Raj Kumar Singh, the self-styled captain and commander of KYKL, being arrested from South Extension in Delhi along with a Manipuri film actress, Devita.
What makes me more disgusting is Raghunath's claim that they collect 2% cut on all the contracts awarded in Manipur and 1.5% cut from government employees. I'm sure KYKL or any other tainted militant outfit must be saying this with pride but they are nothing less than parasites.
If I'm not wrong, the purported objective militant outfits are to rebuild Manipuri society by clearing it of all vices like immoral activities, drug peddling and corruption. But these outfits actually indulge in extortion in a big way sparing none.
In the name of the state's welfare, they illegally collect taxes from the common people. There are hardly any people who pay taxes to the government but every employee pay these illegal tax including my dad without fail due to fear of losing his life.
Most striking part is that, people have to pay to several groups. They just cannot say no to them. Their guns and bullets speaks, the common man listens to it silently. What a great social work for social cause!
And who are these tainted militants? Some school dropout kids with half-witted ignorant minds who ran away from homes just to have their own way. What good work can he do who doesn't even know what is right or wrong for his own life?
I don't appreciate the leaders of these tainted outfits who welcome these mindless youths in their groups and persuades to work for them by giving the license to kill. I wish they had guided them to the right path.
Today, there is not a single sphere of social or political activities left where they don't come in between. Soon, we will see the day when they will start interfering in out private lives like what to eat and what not to eat, when to sleep and when not to sleep.
They are ready to kill anyone who stands against them but they would give a deaf ear and blind eye when the schools are closed for strikes, when the national highways are blocked by the NSCN, when a child is kidnapped for ransom, when drugs are peddling around, when the cheap restaurants at the roadsides are doing some dirty business at broad daylight, when corruption is prevailing during recruitments, when the common man really suffers from the common threats. I don't appreciate our so-called freedom fighters who are just curbing the freedom of their own people.
They banned everything about Indian but they forget that they are wearing Indian clothes, eating Indian foods and running after Indian money. Why don't they go after dollars and pounds and euros?
So coming back to the point, this is not the first time that a militant has been nabbed. But it has become so common that people started looking at us with suspicion and doubts. I have been living here for a decade now.
Today, I feel ashamed of myself to go to office. I feel ashamed because they have left no choice for us to live in dignity. We already have a bad impression, their act makes it worse!
Though I salute to those who are really sacrificing their lives for the common cause but they are lost in the midst of numerous outfits and several factional groups. I'm ready to fight for our basic rights through proper channels but I certainly don't buy the idea of instilling fear in the minds of our own people in the name of a better Kangleipak!

Business of eloping
I'm kinda lost thinking from where to start. It's not something that we don't know about it, it's just that we are not aware of it or we just overlook at it. Back at home, it has been a trend or I would rather call it a money-making business but at the cost of what...if this is a sign of development or civilisation than I certainly don't buy it.
Here is the whole story:
The guy X is jobless and married with 2 kids. The gal Y is his friend Z's gf. Sometimes the 3 of them even hang out together. It happens, you hang out with your friends' bf or gf in groups and there's no harm in it. But there's a twist here.
The lovebirds (Y & Z) plans to elope with the help of X. At the end of the day she backs out saying that she doesn't love Z. She was sent home. On the very next day, she called up X and asked him to meet her. He went. Actually they eloped. Left Imphal knowing that it won't work out. The guy's family never thought he would be with a gal as he's already married and he's used to running away from home for days. So they just keep waiting for his comeback. When the news came after 2 days, the guy's family went to the gal's place for the formalities. There, the gal's family handed over the case to their local club. The elders who went to break the news were instead hold back demanding their gal. That's fine.
Somehow, they were tracked. If the gal stands for the guy then, that's ok...there are lots who have more than 1 wife. And she made the statement that she would stand for him and she eloped with him on her consent...still fine. They are back in Imphal, but suddenly the gal's family demanded Rs 5 lakhs as izzat daabi. And now the gal changes her statement. And the most interesting thing is that the gal's bf Z had filed FIR against his fren for eloping his gf. (Remember his very gf said she didn't love him). So funny!
As usual, bending over society's customs and traditions, the guy's family paid a lump-sum amount after negotiation. (Think of it, it's like making a busines deal).
And now the gal is free to hook another guy for a few more bucks!
My point is: is this some form of money-making business? Here, the dignity of a woman is willingly put on sale in today's mean market. And the poor guys are trapped in it but they never learned their lessons.

Is Manipur the Ignored Killing Field of India?
Manipur, the land of jewels is now filled with killings, extortions, human right abuses, rapes, kidnappings and fake encounters. Even the life of 5-months old unborn child is no longer safe!
Is Manipur the new killing field of India? Or better say the IGNORED killing field of India! Imagine a pregnant woman is killed in front her son! How would you feel? This is what happened in Imphal recently when a young woman (Rabina, 23 yrs) who came out shopping with her three year old son, was killed in a broad day light shoot-out along with a UG suspect in a fake encounter. This incident cements the fact that Manipur and its citizens are not safe even from the Government instituted Armed Forces.
Read this: Contractor and Social Activist Yengkhom Krishnadas (42) who was abducted by some unidentified persons armed with guns and swords from his wife's place for a ransom of Rs 3 crore but he had been done to death even after paying Rs 25 lakhs.
Another incident that rocked the state was the brutal killings of Sub-divisional Officer/Sub-Divisional magistrate (SDO/SDM) of Kasom Khullen Sub-Divsion of Ukhrul district, Dr Thingnam Kishan (39 years) and two staff, by NSCN (IM) for not allowing a demand of the outfit to pay them the funds released for the NREGS job card holders without any condition. The three men were hacked with a hoe and smashed their heads with rock and other heavy weapons. Surprisingly, DC or any of the authority of the office had not lodged any complaint with the police or informed the higher authorities of the state government. Instead, they said that he had been on leave since the next day of his visit to the DC office.
In an escalating violence, the proprietor of Janta Radio Sales and Services Deepak Gupta (40) of Gurgaon, Haryana, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen inside his own shop located at Thangal Bazar on March 23 2009. Soon after the proprietor was shot dead, two UG suspects were killed in the encounter but whether the two slain UG suspects were involved in the killing of the proprietor or not were yet to be established. The encounter was likely to be fake as the local residents claimed that they heard the police commandos shouting at the alleged UG suspects to run before being gunned down.
Here one may also remember the death of the 8 year old girl in 2003 who was kidnapped for a ransom of Rs 15 lakhs. The kidnappers took the life of Lungnila Elizabeth and dropped her mortal remains packed in a gunny bag. In a meeting of the Council of Ministers presided by Chief Minister O Ibobi condemned the killing and resolved to take up action to apprehend the culprits. Till today, the trial goes on but no clear verdict is given to the accused.
These are only a few incidents that provoked the people’s conscience to call strikes and bandhs thereby blocking the roads and causing unrest and most importantly affecting the normal life in the state. And the Chief Minister of the state, instead of acting responsibly keeps imposing curfew to suppress the people's open protest.
Can you imagine how many more have killed in such incidents which often go unreported? How many innocent people have lost their lives for nothing? How many mothers have lost their sons and how many women have become widows? If only you would dare to know the truth!
Today, the whole nation is panicky about H1N1 Influenza but no one cared enough to compare the figures. Let's have a look. So far, Swine Flu has claimed 83 lives in India as on 29th Aug, 2009. This figure is nothing compared to the number of deaths in Manipur this year. Since January 1, 308 has been killed out of which 144 are civilians, 157 are underground activists and 7 security forces.
And we are talking about Manipur only. If we look at the killings in other states of India, I would say swine flu is nothing and is just a passing phase. The number of "fake" encounter cases, registered by National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in the last over three years, shows that Manipur reported the second highest number of such incidents during 2008-09 and 2009-10 (till July this year).
While a big state like Uttar Pradesh has consistently been reporting the highest number of alleged fake encounter cases, Manipur has witnessed a substantial rise - from only one case during 2007-08 to 16 in 2008-09 and six during the first four months (April-July) during 2009-10.
So, how many deaths will it take till the central government knows that too many people have died?

The Unposted Letter
Was so much in pain and writing out was the only way to let it go...
I don't know why I am writing this, because I really hope that this letter never gets to you, because if it does that means I never will get a chance to get you back in my life. Many times, I felt myself unwanted, unloved and uncared. I might have misunderstood your feelings and perhaps your nature but in love we expect a little more care, a few more concern and a special likeness. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see all these as we came closer to each other.
On the contrary, you love me when you want to, you call me when you need to talk to, you take my calls when you wish to, you do everything according to your whims and the rest of the time, you just cut me off from your life. What should I think of if you don't reply my calls despite leaving you messages to call me back? What should I think of if you don't attend my calls when you are right there? What should I think of if you keep yourself away from any contact? In such a situation, it is very difficult to console myself and still believe in love.
Now I know you are not a marrying man but you have no right to spoil my life. You could have told me on my face the very day we met...you could have warned me. How would I know I would be hurt by the only man I love...Till the day I met you, I kept my heart close to me, safe from any danger of breaking it....and without even thinking twice I open it up to you only to break it into pieces.....before I could really feel the bliss of being in love, I felt my heart burn in deep pain.....before I could experience my first love, I learned the hardest lesson of going through heartaches.....am I blessed? I don't know...
But I will confess this...you have shown me what love is and what it feels like to be loved. Every time you hold me, I could feel the warmth in my heart. I could feel it when our hearts get so close they are beating as one. You are the beat of my heart, the soul in my body; you are me, because without you I am nothing. Your entry into my life breathed life into me. It gave me an excitement for each new day and I look forward with anticipation to each time I could see you. In all my life I have never really felt at so peace as when I was in your arms. I was enthralled by the gentle touch of your hands and overcome by the passion of your loving caress. You certainly had an affect on me.
You are the person I want to look at when I need to smile and you are the person I want to go to when I need a hug. Everytime when I leave your place, it is like I have left my soul at your side. No doubt you have shown me how to live and you have shown me how to be truly happy. I want you to know that every time I smile, you have put it there. You make me smile when others can't, you make me feel warm when I am cold. You have shown me so much love and so much more. I want you to know how much you mean to me. You are my whole world and I love you with all my heart. You are my happiness. Every night I think of you when I go to bed. Each night I see your face when I close my eyes.
Do you remember the conversations we had years ago? Do you remember the talks we had so many times day and night? We talked about our families...the differences we have and the similarities in us. I was never shy with you. My goal was the love of a lifetime and a lifetime of love together. That is not much to ask, is it? That is me...swinging for the fences and expecting great things. It will always sadden me that I did not get that life to share with you.
If at any time, you boldly stepped forward and stated that you wanted nothing more than a lifetime of love with me, you would have received a seemingly unending hug and a shoulder wet with my tears. While, you yourself has never said anything, your behaviour have troubled me. You are a good and trusting person but I think you are also a bit insensitive towards my feelings. I'm saddened that my love wasn't enough to do more to gain your love.
It appears our relation has dwindled down to a one way conversation via email. Although you may read them, I feel they don't really reach you. It has been very disheartening to be pushed out of your life.... I thought I accounted for more...
Now it seems I can see you only in my dreams...everything is okay but nothing seems to be right. Honey, I want to say something and I mean this more than I ever did before. You are the love of my life, the man of my dreams. Just because we part does not mean I don't love you. I'll always be loving you, wanting you and miss you all my life.
So this is a goodbye. There will always be a place in my heart that will be fondly, fondly remembered.
Love always and for ever
PS: I long to see your love and adoration in your eyes. I long to feel the comfort and peace of your loving arms. I long to feel the love and desire of your tender touch. I long to swim in the warm , gentle sea of your love, to be surrounded by it, to be enveloped in it, to draw strength from it. I long to hold you close and never let you go.

Will the people of Manipur ever see justice?
Killing after killings, judicial probe after judicial probes, but where is justice? The Sanjit fake encounter case that managed to rocked the state for a while slipped away silently with the victims bearing the pain of the aftermath. The days move on with another encounter, fake or not, and a few more deaths, militants or innocents. People and politicians watch it. So does the GOI offering a deaf ear and blind eye towards the state as if a few more killings are just like another ordinary dealings. In such a situation, what can the people of Manipur do?
So, in trying to raise their voice against the killings of the innocents and demanding justice, strikes and bandhs are called and our respected curfew minister O Ibobi Singh imposed curfews irrespective of the cause to control the people's movement. Again a few more casualties! It's like the vicious cycle that has no end.
Identifying terrorism, insurgency in the northeast and Maoist violence as the three biggest challenges facing the country, Home Minister P. Chidambaram said state governments need to do more to stamp out the threats to India's internal security. With the state's forces having the license to kill, innocent people are being killed in the name of war against terror. If terrorism is to be countered this way than the Government of India is equally responsible for spreading terror in the state.
In the Rabina and Sanjit fake encounter case, CM initially accepted the police version of these cases despite knowing the record of their forces. In 2004, Thangjam Manorama Devi was picked up by the Assam Rifles and found dead 5 hours later. PM promised justice and repeal of AFSPA but nothing as such happened. In such a situation, how can law prevail in the state? Manipur has lost its legitimacy because it can neither provide justice nor safety to its people. Even the life of 5-months old unborn baby is no longer safe in the mother's womb!
While the voluntary shutdown of Pune and Mumbai due to swine flu scare was being widely reported and debated, little is known about the forced shutdown of the large parts of Manipur. And even as media focused on the incident revolving around Shah Rukh Khan's so called detention at Newark Airport in US, thousands of people in Manipur go through such incidents every day. But neither the sate nor the centre cared to look at it.
In 2004, women staged a naked protest when security forces brutally gunned down Thangjam Manorama who they accused of being a militant. It was a desperate appeal for justice from upholders of human rights across the globe. Time and again, women protest of making a sort of protective fence out of their phaneks during Sanjit's fake encounter case. It was an expression of outrage, a cry of desperation and the only way of showing how naked and helpless the people feel in the absence of a rule of law. In 2001 Gujarat made headlines because of the riots that took several lives at once. But in Manipur people die everyday either at the hands of security forces or militants.
But ex-gratias and monetary compensation cannot be regarded as act of justice. If that is the case, then anyone who can afford to give a few bucks can actually start killing people making the state a battle field for the powerful ones. People now wonder how the UPA govt continues to back a CM who has all but failed to govern Manipur. Is it because Ibobi Singh and his IRB (commonly known as Ibobi Reserve Battalion by the local people) go on an overdrive for results whenevevr he is pulled up by the Centre? Or is it because, our CM is so good in turning the table on his favour during any talks with the concerned organisations, associations or groups in silencing the people? Either way, CM knows well how to make any deal in his favour.
And while doing so, justice has lost its meaning and many people are experiencing manifold consequences of violence directly or indirectly. It is high time to bring justice in Manipur through a network of constructive leaders who are not looking for personal and political gains. The dead cannot cry out for justice; it is a duty of the living to do so for them. And if justice is delayed then justice is denied!
There will be no justice as long as man stands with a knife or gun and destroys those who are weaker than he is.

In Love
An old feeling which I feel so odd today...
When you are at the other end of the line,
I just don't remember what I wanna say.
All I could do is laugh and thank you for all those smiles
For all those blissful feelings you make me feel
For all those care and concerns
For all that you think of me, I thank you my dear.
I don't know much how to express my feelings
But just know that you are loved more than you can imagine
Every leisure hours, I share with you in my thoughts....
Every lovely nights, I dream of you in my sleep.....
Sometimes I wish I could be right in your arms...
Sometimes I like to hold your hand and just walk with you....
At times I just want to be near you.....
But we have no choice, reality is hard to face
It aches my heart....do you also feel the same?
Together we have started a journey that has no end
All I ask from you is never leave me alone in the woods
I'll be too scared and lonely, I may not be able to find my way back home.
The love and care we feel for each other
Is the only thread that's binding us together
The trust and understanding we have on each other
Is the only light that will show the path
Forgive me my dear if I ever hurt you,
With all my heart and soul I love you.
