Don't let the dogs rule over you!
For how long do we have to face the threat of death? For how long do we have to shed the blood of our brothers and sisters? For how long do we have to live life in fear? For how long do we have to sit silently and watch the dogs rule?
For how long do we have to sell our votes? For how long do we have to keep our mouths shut from speaking the truth? For how long do we have to fight with guns? Won't we give peace a chance?
You can never achieve freedom by coercion and instilling fear on the minds of the people. It would be foolish to think that we can get our rights by sacrificing the lives of our own people. What good would be freedom when there is no one left to enjoy it?
In today's world, wars are fought by open minds across the table and many peace deals and treaties are signed over a cup of coffee. Isn't it high time our freedom fighters reach an agreement with the central government and restore peace in the state?
I'm not asking you to trade Manipur with the central government. I'm not saying that we should stop fighting for freedom. But you can at least make a deal to stop the killings; a ceasefire agreement would be good enough to start with. If you check the death figures of the last 10 years you will find that the number of civilians died is more than the number of militants or security forces.
Who is responsible for this? You may say it's the AFSPA that's killing the civilians. Here, I would like to question each one of you: Who invited AFSPA? I have never heard that GOI imposed AFSPA just after Manipur was merged with the Indian Union. Remember, AFSPA is a counter-product of the rising insurgency in the state.
At this juncture, I have a question to all our so called freedom fighters. If NSCN can negotiate with Government of India, why can't you. If KNF can strike a deal, why can't you. If all the militant groups unite and approach the GOI, there would be no question of failing in having a negotiation.
But why would they care to unite and talk out. They would rather demarcate Manipur into several jurisdictions and distribute among themselves like a piece of cake. Moreover, it's easier to collect illegal taxes on gunpoint.
It's easier to demand certain percentage of governmental and non-governmental contracts. Also it's easier to send a demand letter asking for certain amount as if owed to them and throw a bomb if denied. Moreover, it's far easier to work as OGWs (over ground workers) for dirty politicians and cheap organizations.
Why should the civilians always bear the brunt? It is better to realize that somehow you are also responsible for their deaths. So before it's too late, change your policies. You need superior strategies to reach your goal. Waging war without clear strategies is just like entering a war zone unarmed. And that would be as stupid as suicide.
Also understand the ground reality before you raise war against India. Do you have enough resources to stand in your own? Do you have skilled manpower to set up factories and produce the basic necessities? Do you have enough money to have a stable economy?
And who's going to rule the state; PLA, RPF, UNLF, KYKL, KCP, PREPAK, who else? Eventually, Manipur would become a militant's state from a militarized one. And that would be equally worse seeing the number of groups actively involving in every sphere of an individual's life.
Once upon a time when I was a kid, I remember freedom fighters sacrificing their lives demanding separation from the Indian sub-continent. I could never understand what made them think that Manipur can stand alone as a nation without any resources and skilled manpower but at least they knew what they want and many lost their lives for the sincere cause. Their first priority was safety of the public.
And they didn't demand money from the people to feed themselves or build houses. They had specific targets and they strike them only. They were the true soldiers of Kangleipak.
The scenario is different today. With so many groups fighting for leadership, it's difficult to understand what they are fighting for. Are they fighting for separation from the Indian Union? No, I don't think so. They are not fighting for freedom or for the people anymore. They are fighting for power only.
You may be ready to discard all Indian products but what about the Indian Currency. You have banned hindi movies and burned down hindi books but why hasn't anyone come out and burned Indian money. You love the Indian currency as much as you hate the country India. Does this means that your fight against India is for some selfish motive?
If the student bodies and Apunba Lup strictly followed the judicial enquiry of the killings of Ch Sanjit and Rabina Devi on July 23rd BT Road incident and find out ways for a fast track court, the commandos involved in the killings would have been proved guilty by law and would have been punished as desired by all.
If the student bodies have shown half the determination in proving the encounter a fake in court, the two months class boycott wouldn't have been required at all. And consequently, our dear CM would have been easily pulled down.
At least we would have got a good reason to ask for his resignation from the CM's post. And if we managed to get the evidence of our state leaders being irresponsible and corrupted, the central government would not have thought twice in terminating him.
But who cares. We are still so uncivilized and ignorant that no one can think of a better means. Whoever has the gun and money is powerful enough to dictate. Isn't that what they have been doing till today?
After selling out your votes to O Ibobi, today you are demanding his resignation from the CM's post. And you think he would resign. Even all the people in the state wants him to resign, the central government won't let him go. You know why? Because of the simple reason that there is no evidence against him. Better sharpen your minds to find a stronger means to pull him down.
The day people rise up and stand against every injustice done to them, there will be change in the system. But the more people bear it, the more people will be suppressed.
I'm sure no one has got the answer and looking at how things are going, it will take ages to bring peace in Manipur. But we can certainly make the first move by changing ourselves for a better tomorrow else we would see a day when people stay out of the house to guard the dogs.

Class boycott will do more harm to the state
It’s been more than two months since the Apunba Lup along with AMSU, MSF and KSA started the class boycott as protest against the July 23rd fake encounter at BT Road this year. At a time when students are supposed to be gearing up for their Xth and XIIth board examinations, schools are shut. Coaching centers are closed. Students are facing a hard time in their studieswhile their counterparts are busy covering the syllabus for better rankings. But our govt has been giving a deaf ear and blind eye to the situation. Why?
Why is the state govt silent on the issue? Why is our dear CM just sitting and watching the show? What is our education minister doing till now? It is unfortunate to see such leaders who have no concern for the thousands of students. What is worst is that the state govt is not even trying to break the deadlock. Mr CM is least concerned about it and why would he be worried whether schools are shut or classes are going on or not. His kids are not the one who is missing the classes.
No wonder why the central govt is doing nothing about it. Are they waiting for the students to lose one academic year? Or are they waiting for a chance to collect more votes?
I certainly understand the reason for calling the class boycott and fully support the cause but I don't find suspending classes to be productive or strong enough to bring the desired changes in the system. Students, who should be preparing for the future is rather involved in the political affairs of the state. It's good to understand the happenings and how the system is working but students going out of classes to bring change in political system are certainly not the right thing to do. It is education that will help us in bringing the changes; barring ourselves from being educated is just like shutting the doors for enlightenment.
Reacting to the appeal of all those who suggested to call off the ongoing class boycott and adopt some other form of agitation, the student bodies have categorically asserted that we people should understand that it is also for us that the ongoing public movement is being launched and so we should start launching the alternative agitation being suggested at once. The student bodies demanded to know which one we think is more important: right to life or right to education and questioned the guarantee of right to life.
Fine! the student bodies have very well put up their questions and I don’t guarantee anything else except my support in whatever movement they undertake but nothing at the cost of education. It would not be wise to keep ourselves shut in the dark especially, when we need brighter people to bring forward our issues in front of the world.
On the other side, Apunba Lup alleged that in Manipur, it is democracy in words and dictatorship in action. What is happening in Manipur is quite contradictory to many provisions of the Constitution of India like 'equality before law', 'protection of life and personal liberty' etc. In the name of tackling insurgency, several inappropriate black laws are being enforced in the region and under such draconian laws, people are being continuously targeted.
I fully agree to that but would not it be draconian if students are barred from attending classes? Would not it be dictatorship if the Lup shuts schools? Would not it be against the provisions of the Constitution of India?
So how different are the Aunba Lup and student bodies' tactics from the govt’s nasty politics? What kind of democracy are they preaching by boycotting classes? What provision of the Constitution are they talking about when they have not respected any? What rights are they talking about when they have not spared the kids the right to education? How different are they from their own elected state representative O Ibobi Singh?
I don't appreciate the student unions and federations who are supporting class boycott. I don't appreciate any organizations or lup that back up in shutting down schools. I don't appreciate the leaders of the state who are watching it as if nothing happened just because their sons and daughters are not studying in Manipur. I don't appreciate any shameful acts that hamper the growth of upcoming generation.
The student bodies and Apunba Lup should find better means to fight against the state sponsored terrorism. If the boycott is not lifted then Apunba Lup or the student bodies will be no less than any terror outfits.

I know I would be their first target for having such an opinion about them but my conscience doesn't allow me to have a better view than this. Then should I keep my mouth shut? No, I cannot.
What a shame I felt when I saw the news about Raj Kumar Singh, the self-styled captain and commander of KYKL, being arrested from South Extension in Delhi along with a Manipuri film actress, Devita.
What makes me more disgusting is Raghunath's claim that they collect 2% cut on all the contracts awarded in Manipur and 1.5% cut from government employees. I'm sure KYKL or any other tainted militant outfit must be saying this with pride but they are nothing less than parasites.
If I'm not wrong, the purported objective militant outfits are to rebuild Manipuri society by clearing it of all vices like immoral activities, drug peddling and corruption. But these outfits actually indulge in extortion in a big way sparing none.
In the name of the state's welfare, they illegally collect taxes from the common people. There are hardly any people who pay taxes to the government but every employee pay these illegal tax including my dad without fail due to fear of losing his life.
Most striking part is that, people have to pay to several groups. They just cannot say no to them. Their guns and bullets speaks, the common man listens to it silently. What a great social work for social cause!
And who are these tainted militants? Some school dropout kids with half-witted ignorant minds who ran away from homes just to have their own way. What good work can he do who doesn't even know what is right or wrong for his own life?
I don't appreciate the leaders of these tainted outfits who welcome these mindless youths in their groups and persuades to work for them by giving the license to kill. I wish they had guided them to the right path.
Today, there is not a single sphere of social or political activities left where they don't come in between. Soon, we will see the day when they will start interfering in out private lives like what to eat and what not to eat, when to sleep and when not to sleep.
They are ready to kill anyone who stands against them but they would give a deaf ear and blind eye when the schools are closed for strikes, when the national highways are blocked by the NSCN, when a child is kidnapped for ransom, when drugs are peddling around, when the cheap restaurants at the roadsides are doing some dirty business at broad daylight, when corruption is prevailing during recruitments, when the common man really suffers from the common threats. I don't appreciate our so-called freedom fighters who are just curbing the freedom of their own people.
They banned everything about Indian but they forget that they are wearing Indian clothes, eating Indian foods and running after Indian money. Why don't they go after dollars and pounds and euros?
So coming back to the point, this is not the first time that a militant has been nabbed. But it has become so common that people started looking at us with suspicion and doubts. I have been living here for a decade now.
Today, I feel ashamed of myself to go to office. I feel ashamed because they have left no choice for us to live in dignity. We already have a bad impression, their act makes it worse!
Though I salute to those who are really sacrificing their lives for the common cause but they are lost in the midst of numerous outfits and several factional groups. I'm ready to fight for our basic rights through proper channels but I certainly don't buy the idea of instilling fear in the minds of our own people in the name of a better Kangleipak!

What makes me more disgusting is Raghunath's claim that they collect 2% cut on all the contracts awarded in Manipur and 1.5% cut from government employees. I'm sure KYKL or any other tainted militant outfit must be saying this with pride but they are nothing less than parasites.
If I'm not wrong, the purported objective militant outfits are to rebuild Manipuri society by clearing it of all vices like immoral activities, drug peddling and corruption. But these outfits actually indulge in extortion in a big way sparing none.
In the name of the state's welfare, they illegally collect taxes from the common people. There are hardly any people who pay taxes to the government but every employee pay these illegal tax including my dad without fail due to fear of losing his life.
Most striking part is that, people have to pay to several groups. They just cannot say no to them. Their guns and bullets speaks, the common man listens to it silently. What a great social work for social cause!
And who are these tainted militants? Some school dropout kids with half-witted ignorant minds who ran away from homes just to have their own way. What good work can he do who doesn't even know what is right or wrong for his own life?
I don't appreciate the leaders of these tainted outfits who welcome these mindless youths in their groups and persuades to work for them by giving the license to kill. I wish they had guided them to the right path.
Today, there is not a single sphere of social or political activities left where they don't come in between. Soon, we will see the day when they will start interfering in out private lives like what to eat and what not to eat, when to sleep and when not to sleep.
They are ready to kill anyone who stands against them but they would give a deaf ear and blind eye when the schools are closed for strikes, when the national highways are blocked by the NSCN, when a child is kidnapped for ransom, when drugs are peddling around, when the cheap restaurants at the roadsides are doing some dirty business at broad daylight, when corruption is prevailing during recruitments, when the common man really suffers from the common threats. I don't appreciate our so-called freedom fighters who are just curbing the freedom of their own people.
They banned everything about Indian but they forget that they are wearing Indian clothes, eating Indian foods and running after Indian money. Why don't they go after dollars and pounds and euros?
So coming back to the point, this is not the first time that a militant has been nabbed. But it has become so common that people started looking at us with suspicion and doubts. I have been living here for a decade now.
Today, I feel ashamed of myself to go to office. I feel ashamed because they have left no choice for us to live in dignity. We already have a bad impression, their act makes it worse!
Though I salute to those who are really sacrificing their lives for the common cause but they are lost in the midst of numerous outfits and several factional groups. I'm ready to fight for our basic rights through proper channels but I certainly don't buy the idea of instilling fear in the minds of our own people in the name of a better Kangleipak!
